S and I are Book Buddies for Parragon Books, and we’re always excited to see which book will turn up for review next. When The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen arrived, I think I was more excited than S!

This is a proper story book; the kind my parents used to read to me when I was little. The eight stories in this book are all old, traditional fairy stories – the kind where everyone knows what happens, but you love to read and re-read them just the same.

I remember having a big book of fairy tales like this when I was little, and loving to choose which story my mum read to me each night. I love reading them with S; because they’re a little longer they’re perfect for a quiet afternoon or evening with a long, cuddly story. As she grows up S can practise her reading with these stories, reading the words she’s already read with me numerous times.

S has loved curling up with me to read these stories in the evenings; I think because the stories are longer and more involved than a lot of children’s books these days. Don’t get me wrong; we love the shorter books too, but sometimes it’s nice to have a longer story – and cuddle!

NB I was provided with a copy of this book for the purpose of review, but all opinions are my own.

 Thanks for reading.

This is a gorgeous cover. Which stories are included in this version?

I love fairytales! Can’t wait for BookBairn to be old enough to read them together! The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey is a fantastic fairytale for adults if you like that sort of thing too. #readwithme

Looks like a gorgeous story collection! I’m quite superstitious so I bought hardly anything when I was pregnant in terms of clothes, teddies, toys, etc but I did make an exception for books – it made me realise just how many beautiful editions there are out there, scouring eBay week after week! :) #readwithme
