Today would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday, can you believe it? To celebrate, S and I were delighted to be sent a copy of The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl from Carlton Books for review.

I loved Roald Dahl as a child, and have enjoyed introducing S to some of his more tame stories as she gets older. This book is the perfect accompaniment to those stories, and a must for any Dahl fan. Authorised by the Roald Dahl estate, the 59-page book brings Dahl’s stories and characters to life, adding in details and amazing illustrations from (of course) Quentin Blake.

You can discover where the Oompa-Loompas came from, learn how to be a Twit and get to know all the caracters from James and the Giant Peach

As well as beautiful illustrations, fold-out sections and mini guides, the scrapbook also includes some little-known facts, anecdotes and background stories for some of  Dahl’s most famous books.

This is a proper keepsake book, with thick pages and wonderful designs. There are photos of Dahl’s writing hut where he penned his masterpieces, a mini guide to Loompaland, and even insights into what Dahl kept on his desk while writing.

At the moment S loves to turn the pages and look at the different images; as she grows older it will be a great book to look at together as she discovers each of Dahl’s gloriumptious worlds!

The Gloriumptious Worlds of Roald Dahl is available from Carlton books and all good book shops.
