At the beginning of May I embarked on a four week Drop a Dress Size challenge with Girls Love Fit

The first week was really tough… Really tough. I used to eat pretty badly but I had convinced myself that the occasional salad I’d been stuffing down between bags of crisps meant I ate quite healthily. There’s nothing like a week of NO crap to make you realise just how much junk you were putting away.

After about the third day though, I started to feel better. And in week 2, when the food changed slightly, I felt amazing. I was waking up before my alarm went off and feeling fantastic.

At the end of the four week challenge, I had lost 5lbs and 11 inches, including 2 from my waist. More than that though, I felt a lot better. My skin had cleared up; my digestion was better; my belly was no longer bloated. I felt good.

At the end of the challenge I did a live video on Facebook about my experience:

What I’ll Keep Up

Wheat: Through the whole four week programme I ate no starchy carbs and no wheat. Well, I had a couple of slip ups where I ate wheat – and then I had a reaction which makes me think perhaps I have a slight intolerance to wheat. Either way, I feel a lot better without wheat and starchy carbs so I’m going to stick to that most of the time.

Coffee: For the first week of the challenge, there was no coffee. In the second week it was reintroduced, but only organic, filtered coffee and not every day or at the same time so that it becomes a habit again. I’ll continue with having organic filtered coffee rather than the instant I’d been drinking previously. And I’m trying to avoid making it into a habit. Some mornings I have my coffee first thing like I used to before; other mornings it’s closer to lunch time; other days I don’t have any at all. I love coffee, but it’s nice to feel like I’m not going to fall on the floor and cry if I can’t have any!

Greens: As part of the plan I had a glass of greens every day. I’ll be honest; it’s not the tastiest thing in the world, and I’ve not managed to do it every day since. But I will keep having them at least once a week because I do feel like they helped me to feel good.

Journaling: Although the plan is called Drop a Dress Size, it’s not just a change in diet or exercise; there is a lifestyle element to it. Part of this was daily journaling. As part of the programme, I bought a new diary. Each morning I wrote down the things I was grateful for, and in the evening I wrote down the things I had achieved that day, and one thing I loved about myself. Here’s a video I made about the process:

All in all, I’m really pleased with how my Drop a Dress Size challenge went. One month on, the challenge for me now is keeping up with it. It’s easy to let sugar and junk creep back into one’s diet without noticing too much!

The next Drop a Dress Size challenge begins in July, and my readers can get 20% off the cost of the programme by quoting “single mother ahoy.” Check out the Drop A Dress Size Online page of their site for more details, and email info@girlslovefit.co.uk to sign up.
